Quality Standards & Testing
Globally Recognized Standards from Raw Material Inspection to Finished-Product Certification.

Quality control is not a phase; it is our core foundation.
At Alfa Refractories, quality control is an integral part of our manufacturing process. From raw material inspection to finished-product testing, every production batch is monitored through defined quality-control procedures.
Our refractory products are tested, wherever applicable, in accordance with recognized BIS/IS, ASTM and EN standards. Test results are evaluated against the agreed product specification to ensure consistent quality, reliable performance and batch-to-batch uniformity.
What We Test
Refractory products are evaluated across Physical, Mechanical, Chemical and Thermal properties depending on the grade and application.

Physical Properties
These properties help assess the material's resistance to slag and gas penetration, density, thermal behaviour and overall structural performance.

Chemical Properties
Mechanical strength is critical for refractory products exposed to handling, installation, thermal cycling and service loads.

Thermal Properties
These tests help evaluate dimensional stability, high-temperature performance, deformation behaviour and resistance to thermal cycling.
Refractory Testing Standards
Our products are tested as per national and international laboratory protocols.
| Refractory Property | BIS/IS Standards | ASTM Standards | EN Standards |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apparent Porosity & Bulk Density | IS 1528 Part 8 | ASTM C20 / C830 | BS EN 993-1 |
| Cold Crushing Strength (CCS) | IS 1528 Part 4 | ASTM C133 | BS EN 993-5 |
| Refractoriness under Load (RUL) | IS 1528 Part 2 | ASTM C16 | BS EN 993-8 |
| Pyrometric Cone Equivalent (PCE) | IS 1528 Part 1 | ASTM C24 | BS EN 993-12 |
| Permanent Linear Change (PLC) | IS 1528 Part 6 | ASTM C113 | BS EN 993-10 |
| Chemical Analysis | IS 1528 Series | As applicable | As applicable |
* Applicable test methods and standard editions may vary according to product grade, customer specification and testing requirements. The relevant method reference is stated in the applicable test report.
From Raw Material to Finished Product
Strict quality gates managed across every manufacturing stage.
Raw Material Inspection
Incoming raw materials are checked for relevant chemical, physical and quality parameters before being released for production.
In-Process Control
During crushing, grinding, mixing, pressing and firing, key process parameters are monitored to maintain consistency throughout production.
Finished Product Testing
Finished refractory products are tested for the properties specified for the particular grade and application.
Final Verification
Test results are reviewed against the approved technical specification before material is cleared for dispatch.
Certificate of Analysis (CoA)
A Certificate of Analysis (CoA) can be provided with the relevant shipment/batch as per customer and product requirements, confirming physical and chemical characteristics.
Raw Mineral Traceability
Alfa Refractories implements a batch-number tracking pipeline to trace each dispatch batch back to its raw material mineral origin.
Customer-Focused Quality Assurance
At Alfa Refractories, we understand that refractory performance directly impacts kiln availability, production efficiency and operating cost. Our objective is therefore not only to manufacture refractory products, but to deliver consistent, specification-compliant and application-focused solutions to customers across domestic and international markets.
